Knotted Butterfly Necklace
This stringing project is very simple and fast to make. I added a rub-on transfer to the focal piece and then chose matching beads. Using transfers are a great way to customize your jewelry.
Materials:
- Donut Focal Piece
- Shell Chips, Turquoise Blue
- 6 mm Mother of Pearl Beads, Orange
- Mixed Seed Beads, Size 6, Green
- 1 8 mm Stone Bead, Orange
- Silk Thread, 3 lengths 3 ft long, White
- Beeswax
- Tapestry Needle
- Glue (optional)
Step 1: Coat the ends of the threads with beeswax to prevent them from unraveling.
Step 2: Fold the 3 threads in half and pass the loop through the center of the focal piece.
Step 3: Pass the threads through the loop and pull.
Step 4: Separate the strands so that you have 3 on each side.
Step 5: Take one of the strands and make an overhand knot about 1 inch from the focal piece. Slide on any bead and make a knot next to the bead. To position the knot, slide a tapestry needle through the center and gently move it along until the knot is in the desired spot. Remove the needle and tighten the knot.
Step 6: Continue knotting the thread and adding beads leaving a space of about 1 to 1 1/2 inches between beads. Stop when the stand is about 9 inches long. Repeat with all the strands.
Step 7: Take the 3 strands from one side and tie them in an overhand knot. Slide on the 8 mm orange bead and make another overhand knot next to the bead.
Step 8: With the other three strands, fold the remaining thread into a loop of about 1/2 inch and form an overhand knot.
Step 9: Trim the excess thread and secure the last knots with glue, if desired.
