This pretty ribbon flower necklace is simple to make and very versatile to wear. The focal piece is a bronze ribbon flower sewn to a perforated disc finding.
Materials:
- Size 11 bronze Japanese seed beads
- Bronze wired ribbon approximately 2 inches in width
- 10mm perforated disc
- 10mm perforated disc backing
- 6 mm bronze Czech firepolished beads
- 4 mm peach firepolished beads
- 4 mm cream glass pearls
- Sewing Thread, brown
- Beading Thread
- Clamshell bead tips, 2
- Jump rings, 2
Tools:
- Scissors
- Bent nose pliers
- Flat nose pliers
- Needle
Step 1: Cut 2 pieces of ribbon, one to about 12 inches and the other to about 9 inches. Remove the wire from one of the sides on each ribbon. Thread a needle with brown thread and leaving a 2 inch tail, run it a long the edge without wire. The stitches should be loose. When you reach the end, make a surgeon's knot with the 2 inch tail and remaining thread. The ribbon should scrunch up like in the picture. Repeat with the other piece of ribbon.
Step 2: Place the smaller ribbon circle on top of the larger one and layer it on the perforated disc. Thread the needle again if needed. Knot the thread to the perforated disc and bring it up through both ribbons. Sew through all three pieces several times to hold them in place. Decorate the top by sewing on firepolished beads and pearls. When finished, knot the thread and trim excess.
Step 3: Place the perforated disc backing onto the perforated disc and gently close the prongs with bent nose pliers.
Step 4: Leaving a 2 inch tail, string a stop bead onto a length of beading thread and pass it through a clamshell bead tip. String on 10 seed beads. Begin a pattern of 1 6 mm bronze fire polished bead, 5 seed beads, a 4 mm peach fire polished bead, 5 seed beads, a 6 mm bronze bead, 5 seed beads and a 4 mm glass pearl bead. Repeat this pattern until the necklace is about 45 inches or the length of your choice.
Step 5: String on a clamshell bead tip, a seed bead and pass back through the bead tip. String beads to mirror the pattern strung, only alternate with crystals and pearls as shown in the picture.
Step 6: Once you have reached the end of the beaded strand, pass the needle through the bead tip. Make a surgeons knot with the remaining thread and the 2 inch tail. Trim any remaining thread and close the clamshells with bent nose pliers.
Step 7: Use bent nose and flat nose pliers to connect the ribbon flower to either end of the beaded strand with jump rings.
